The first time I saw Mr. Black Coffee Liquor was on a YouTube video I was like I need that! One of my friend’s favorite beverages is expresso even though she is an insomniac, sso this seemed like an easy buy for making her a special concoction. Of course just because I wanted something, it wasn’t easily found! Eventually I had to pull a 45 minute drive to pick up a bottle, but oh was it worth it! One month later I find it in every liquor store I visited. The drive was still worth it.
Unlike other libation history lessons this one is pretty short. Mr. Black was founded in 2013 by distiller Philip Moore and designer Tom Baker. They obviously shared a passion for coffee and booze hence the creation of Mr. Black coffee liquor. They roast their own beans on-premises, sourced from the best regions around the globe to create their spirit. But this is only one half of the equation; Australian wheat vodka is the other half. And oh yes there is caffeine in this – and plenty of it. A typical 1oz (3 0ml) pour of expresso contains about 64 mg caffeine and a 1oz (30ml) pour of Mr. Black contains 25-35% of that caffeine. To bad it is not 1 to 1, but then that would be espresso and we would miss the story.
It is one of the most delicious coffee liqueurs I’ve encountered. It reminds me of Tempus Fugit Creme de Cacao but on a coffee liqueur level. It tastes like cold-brew coffee and it is great by itself on the rocks or in a cocktail.
